SHORT BIO
I was born in 1978 and
raised in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real,
Castilla-La Mancha, Spain). In 1996 I moved to Madrid and started my
engineering
studies. In 2001 and 2006 I received the
Telecommunications Engineer degree (Ingeniero
de Telecomunicación)
and the PhD degree, respectively, both from Universidad
Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).
After
collaborating for
1 year with the Image Processing Group (GTI), I joined the Speech and Signal
Processing Area (ATVS) in early 2002. Since
2002, I held a Ph.D. scholarship from
Comunidad de Madrid. From 2002 to
2004 I was with the Audio-Visual and
Communications Engineering Department (DIAC,
UPM), and since 2004 I am with the Computer
Engineering Department (EPS), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
(UAM).
Starting in early 2007, I will be a visiting researcher at the
PRIP laboratory in Michigan
State University for 2 years, under a
Marie
Curie Outgoing International Fellowship, which will be followed by a
1-year re-integration phase in UAM with
ATVS.
My
research interests are focused on signal and image processing, pattern
recognition and biometric authentication (signature, fingerprint, voice,
face, and fusion). I am actively involved in national and European
projects (e.g.,
BioSec
FP6 IP, Biosecure FP6 NoE)
dealing with biometrics and I have published over 40 international contributions.
I was the recipient of the Best Poster Award
at IAPR 4th Intl. Conf. on Audio- and Video-Based Biometric Person
Authentication (AVBPA 2003), led the development of the UPM
on-line signature verification system ranked 2nd at the 1st Intl.
Signature Verification Competition (SVC
2004), participated in the development of the ATVS speaker
recognition system ranked 3rd at the NIST 9th Speaker Recognition
Evaluation (SRE
2004), received the
Rosina
Ribalta Award to the Best Spanish PhD Proposal in the areas of Information
Technology and Communications by the Fundación Epson Ibérica in 2005,
received the Motorola Best Student Paper Award at the IAPR 1st
International Conference on Biometrics (ICB
2006), and received the
EBF European Biometric Industry Award 2006. |
