The Casino of Madrid Club was established in 1836. After several headquarter changes, at the beginning of the 20th Century the partners decided to construct their own building at Alcalá Street. The impressive house was officially inaugurated in 1910. For its design, an international competition was summoned in 1903, where the best French and Spaniard architects took part. The Jury solved to buy several projects that Farge, a studio of notorious architects, combined in a single idea. The direction of the work was in charge of José López Sallaberry, one of the best architects of his times, who projected the brilliant solutions of the entrance, the stairway of honor, and the Royal main hall. The building has been restored and refurbished in the recent years, being declared Monument of Cultural Interest in 1993.
The importance and quality of the artistic patrimony of the Casino of Madrid is unquestionable. Painting, sculpture, as well as numerous details as the Maumejéan stained-glass windows, the famous La Granja glass lamps, or the valuable collection of clocks, makes the Casino of Madrid a unique scenario to host the FPL 2006 gala dinner.
